It has been a long time. Where was I? What was I doing? It is a long story. So long, that I had to leave other such pleasures like this blog.
Where was I?
I took up a job. Finally! I had written a post earlier, about what it feels like to not have a job here. I was not forced to take up the job. It was just the best thing to do at that point apart from the other adventures I was involving myself in.
What else was I doing?
I am preparing for this awesome exam, called Civil Service Examination(CSE) conducted by Union Public Service Commission(UPSC). I did not take up a job after college, because I wanted to full time prepare for this exam. This exam and the subsequent preparation period was the inspiration behind writing the post on, how it feels like to not have a job, in the first place. For first timers, the preparation can get quite heavy. And in my first attempt, there were 2 optional subjects unlike the 1 optional subject from thereon. So more pressure.
In pursuit of that exam, I had been preparing for over 2 years, including the good days of my final year in college. It was June 2013. Looking ahead in my life at that time, I thought this was the best moment to take up a job. I had prepared pretty well with the basics and it just needed some revisions, writing practise, corrections, etc for the subsequent attempts.
At the end, taking up a job means most of your day time is gone. And then, the rest of time, I used to study for the exam. So no time for a blog post. 😦
What is this exam?
For people who do not know, it is a very tough exam. It has 3 parts – Preliminary, Mains Written and Personality Test(Interview). I can write a whole separate post on the exam but I guess there are many sites which are solely dedicated to this exam like www.mrunal.org. So if you want to know more about the exam, you can look it up over there.
The exam went well and I got selected to interview. But, as fate goes, it doesnt matter if you have some sheer moments of excellence. It matters to have overall greatness. I can only describe this in a better way through these GIFs ( courtesy: bleacherreport.com and fansided.com ).
If you had seen the recent FIFA World Cup 2014, you would have known about Mexico’s Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa. He made wonderful saves like these:
And this one:
But at last who won the world cup?
These guys did…
Life lessons learnt
It is so simple to come at the end of the day, and say,” Hey! You could have done this better”.
I would have been like, “Oh wow! Thanks!! I did not know that I had to perform, in all aspects at top notch to get selected! You opened my eyes!” 😛
But it is just the way things are. You realize your mistake or your weak areas only after you have made them. It is more frustrating, when you know that you gave your 100% and yet, things did not work out the way you thought they would.
What are you doing now?
- Pretty much picked up all the pieces of myself after tasting defeat for the second time. This is one of the important step. Otherwise next steps are of no use.
- Started revision + practise for the next prelims. The good thing about having to give for 3rd time is that, your preparation is easier than the last time.
- Plan out some Plan B and Plan C. I will blog about these, when I have successfully employed them.
If there are time when to me thy memory flashes,
my heart draws blank at the void left by your departure’s ashes.
It has to end at some point of time,
I cant find a word now though, to replace you and rhyme.
Life always has its ugly turns,
It has left me now with a beautiful smile’s burns.
However may the differences be,
It would be, if things ought to be.
Probability is an ugly mistress,
She changes your mind as you would change your dress.
Alas ! Why Do I always have to Rhyme ??
Because Poems can be perfect but Life cant be in such short time.
When I stare at dark times,
you show me light’s silent chimes,
Guiding me blindfold,
When people mock at me as if I am blind and fooled.
I take it there is a chance,
to replace darkness with colour’s trance.
But when I bask in glory,
You give me reasons to worry,
Because for inch of smile,
You say I am closer to darkness by a mile.
One cant always be at a high,
“Why cant I be?? “, I give out a sigh!
“Who are you ?”, I may ask
I am PROBABILITY put to task.
It must be awkward to see me writing to myself. Its like I am writing something to put inside in a time capsule which I can retrieve later in in some 15 years(Uh! That’s a stretch).
I actually got this idea from a blog post where a 28 year old blogger writes a letter to her 16 year old girl self. Mine is not to a 16 year old self but to my older self who is told things from the 21 year old me. So here it is….
How are you? I hope this finds you in the best of health and wealth? So what is it you have been doing with your life now? I hope it is something that is good and useful to yourselves. Obviously you must be working somewhere now. Oh wait! It is not necessary for you to get a job. There is more to doing good for yourself than having a job. Just make sure that whatever you are doing is close to your heart.
Career is a long journey and it does not be on a traditional path. It must be filled with interests and excitement. Steve Jobs, one of your greatest idol said that each morning if you were to ask yourself that,”If today was the last day of your life, what I want to do what I am about to do today?” and if the answer is no for too many number of days then it is time to change things the way they are. These are golden words and try to follow them if you can.
The time that I write this blog is a wonderful time. Life is full of expectations and ambitions to fulfill. Maybe they get fulfilled or they dont. But when you read this, feel happy that you had given your level best at attempting it. There is a chance that you can be happy that your ambitions get fulfilled. No guesses for being rejoiced then heh?? 😉
You are a stud. Remember this the next time you feel down and low on confidence. There are things…. so many things that you have done to be proud of and sets you apart.Don’t let ordinary hurdles bring you down.
It is funny that one of the things that has set you apart in a lot of things is your height. It is more than normal and I am glad that we had it. It is boon and a bane but it is always a pleasure to be taller in this world(not only physically but also morally I would say 🙂 ) . Its a wonderful view from the top. 😉
You play a lot of sports. So I must tell you that it is important to keep your fitness good. If there can be anything that you cant regain, then it is your fitness. Keep up your good work.
You like to travel places. Your 21 year old self could not find the time and money to do justice to this wish. I hope that this wish continues later also.
I definitely would say this that be around loved ones. There cant be a better place than besides someone who loves you. Let me remind you that the countless TV serials that you have watched, they all talk about the same thing. If your heart is broken then don’t worry, if it had happened then, it was for the search of a better person. I hope that this situation does not arrive. But still.
This post may be full of blind rays of hope and empty promises but what else can I do now than tell you that I will be there for myself later. 🙂
21-year-old Shiva Ram

It is funny the timing of when and how I write my posts for my blog. Either it is before an exam. Or when I am stressed. So basically I enjoy my blogs. Which is awesome!! 🙂
So what is the best friend moment?
OK. This is how it works. Suppose you come to a new institute/workplace/environment. It is pretty obvious that we are bound to meet new people and some of them may become close and some of them not. Over time these casual friends that one makes goes on to enter into the life around you.
For example, to watch a new movie. You want company. You have been placed in a new city after college so your college friends are not much around.
Another case, a bit younger. You are in a new institute. You just cleared JEE/AIEEE and came to this big college leaving your home. You are about to stay in the hostel. Then you want to go and check out the new city. It is always human to put up a team of enthusiasts and head out.
So when these guys are into your daily life there is this moment when you feel that one of these fellow is really a good friend. You realize that you have here is one whom you can call a best friend. Maybe he wont feel that way but still you feel happy that you have made one. This moment when you feel is called the best friend moment.
In case where the sexes are opposite it can be that this can lead onto a dating relationship but that is the point of change in the whole relationship and doesn’t come under best friends.
If you look back into some of your best friends currently and think of how and when they became yours, then I am sure that you will forget all about your current work and smile like a dreaming child . 🙂
The reason why this is important is this. Later when you sit back and reminisce the best moments that you had with this friend it would start with this moment. And to your surprise it would be one of the best ones. It will make you look back and envy the good old days if you are in a bad position now. Or it can make you think that you have come a long way from that point to a much happier place. It could have been the time he/she was there for you when you needed a friend the most. Or the time you found something new about yourself thanks to the friend. Its all that makes up this special moment.
At times of placement, farewell and what not, this post will absolutely make sense to those who might have to say their adieu to their best mates.
Though I must stress that it is not necessary to have this kind of an impulsive moment. Just that in cases that if it exists, it is duely noted by the person. And it stays embedded in the mind for a long time.
So let this post be the reason for you to start thinking about your best moments and reminisce them. Who knows this can be that special day.
In a far far kingdom filled with beautiful dears, mischievous monkeys, scenic trees and what not there lived a few thousand people. The kingdom flourished in its prosperity and regions far far away knew about the greatness about it.
In the kingdom there existed a group of people called the Chief Council of Wishwashers or hereby referred to as CCW. This is a kingdom that is present among lots of rivers from India- Godavari,Pampa, Tamiraparani, Sindhu, Ganga and also it controls lot of activities that happen on the great mountains of ‘The Himalaya’.
The council is governed by a lot of minions who roam in their flowy blue robes and are governed centrally by a head who generally has a very funny name. The council has a general idea that they rule the forest kingdom in which they live in because they bully the residents. The residents need to rely on the council because of the lengthy procedures they impose for their daily nutritional requirements. The residents live in the kingdom for a limited period of time during which the nutritional queries are natural to come up in their period of stay.
The fact is that these minions dont rule this world. They are like the British. They came for trade but slowly infiltrating into the general world and ruining the life of the innocent originals. Having to engage in any sort of the business with them is entering into the training house of dragons. Each minion is a fiery untamed fire breathing creature and it doesnt matter to whom you approach, one is going to get burnt.
How do people then survive these dragons during their stay here?? It is inevitable!! One must suffer for their pleasurable stay in the wonderful kingdom by controlling their emotions arising out of their engagements with the CCW or else just blog like me under pseudo-names. 😛 😛
(This is a truly fictional and creative story. Characters and Names mentioned here are purely coincidental and may or may not be targetted at any specific person(s))
It is in the news that the Government is proposing in all directions to give a Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar for his great contribution to the nation for his cricket prowess. He is the Master Blaster from India and the records follow him wherever he goes. I am not going to include the fact that the current England tour is devastating for India and are looking at whitewash in the English soil. Neither are my views in this post prejudiced by this. But being a person who resorts to music when desperate times occur I find it dismaying that a few extraordinary persons are neglected by the so-called home department. I just recommend here only 2 people but I guess there are more.
First is Ilayaraja.
The name of Ilayaraja is nothing new to the current generation. The Maestro or Isaignani as he is called has been in the industry composing songs that literally sway your heart for the past 3 decades ( Sachin is here for only 2 decades). The older generation need not even be told about him as it was the time of great economic turmoil and his songs of life, love, tragedy, happiness that defined their mood. Some of these famous tracks are even replayed in today’s movies to show the same emotion but in a comical way so much that those tracks have been synonymous for those emotions.
Well he is just a Tamil industry Music Director. What has he done to the nation as such??
Yes. Most of his scores has been in Tamil. But he has composed music in Telugu,Kannada,Malayalam and even Marathi!! Did you know that is a GOLD MEDALIST in electric guitar from the Trinity College of Music. Out of the 4 National Awards that he has won it is 1 each in Tamil and Malayalam and 2 in Telugu. So he is not just a Tamil Composer.I can keep going on here. But I just Sergei Brin and Larry Page founded Google for that. 😛
Where is he now??
He composes music for upcoming directors as he himself was given the opportunity when he was young. He wants to give back to the film industry. His music is no less wonderful as should say the National Award for the Malayalam film Pazhasiraja was in 2009.
There is this joke in the Internet. AR Rahman music makes a man standing still to sway but only Ilayaraja’s music can make a moving make come to a standstill. _/\_
I am a true fan of Ilayaraja and I truly wish that he gets a Bharat Ratna.
The second person I wish is K.J.Yesudas
Man I really think GOD sent this man to earth to mellow our hearts with his voice. I mean the songs this guy has sung is almost…… I have no words to describe…
To some of my non-Google friends, here is a start for you. He has won the National Award 7 times( Oh ya!! You must be thinking has anybody won so much? Well no. He is the only person). Another common news about is his letter to the Kerala Home ministry asking them to stop giving him the State award( He has won it 22 times). Even after that he got the award many times after which his last letter threatened to deny the award. His presence in the music industry is for 5 decades where his footprint is yet to touch only Assamese,Konkani and Kashmiri.
Even now when I hear the Gopikavasantham in His Highness Abdullah, Kanne Kalai Mane from Moondram Pirai, Gori thera gaon bada pyaara from Chitchor and his numerous other songs I stop, listen and then move.
Please note that I am not against Tendulkar getting a Bharat Ratna. But I am confused at why these legends are not conferred it yet. And I am pretty sure that these awards are obsolete to these GODs anymore. But being there ardent fans I am still dazzled. I am sure that this drive for Tendulkar’s Bharat Ratna is after India winning World Cup. But what about the so many accolades and the hearts that these maestros have won in their careers till now??
